A Late Birthday Party / MAY 26, 2063 Night

[ After a short "vacation" at Tokyo, Brianna sends a text to her friends. It's a general invitation that stretches from her blade mates to her mentors, to well, the whole of Netsach (as long as she knows them. Also extends to some Zangyaku friends). Of course, she asks her parents for permission first. ]

SENT: 03:00 PM

Hello friend! It would make me very happy if you could make it to Haven this Saturday to celebrate my 520th birthday. Drinks on me. :)

At the bar, you say? Have a Kaz.

[When Kaz looks around at the bar, he spots a very pretty girl in a short skirt and tights that looked vaguely like a certain knife-wielding Russian who was also his Blademate.

Is that... No... It couldn't be...

He has to wait at the bar for a while to make sure that it IS Yulia, frowny face and all. He sidles over with a small smile on his face. While he generally doesn't want to piss her off, he can't help but say:]

You look very pretty tonight, Yulia.

[bostova]

[ She's leaning on the bar, nursing a glass of something the bartender gave her (he assured her it had vodka, but it tasted vaguely of mangoes). She shoots an angry look at the next person who called her pretty that night and--

turns out to be Kaz. Huh. ]

...You are the 17th person to say that tonight.

[ktotheatothez]

This is true. [He counted.]But, unlike them, I'm not trying to get in your pants. Or skirt, as the case may be.

[Kaz shrugs and asks for whatever Yulia's having. When he sips at it.]

Hm. Fruity. Dare I ask whose handiwork this is?

[bostova]

[ Yeeeah, Kaz. She knows.

She takes another sip of her drink, then shrugs. ]

Not mine. I only asked for vodka, and I was told this had vodka. [ She shrugs again. ]

[ktotheatothez]

[Kaz 'hmms' at that and takes another long sip of his drink.]

At the risk of bodily harm, who do we have to thank for your ensemble?

[It's good-natured ribbing, and he really does think she looks pretty in what she's wearing.]

[bostova]

... Tala Vega.

[ktotheatothez]

Ah.

[He sympathizes with Yulia. Tala Vega is... A whirling dervish of fashion, sass, smarts and beauty. You really couldn't say no to her, (and he'd seen both her fathers try.) so for a brief second he wishes Yulia hadn't been put through it.]

[bostova]

She is good with what she does.

[ She drinks again, looking over the glass at Kaz. His expression said a lot about what he thought if Tala. ]

[ktotheatothez]

[Kaz being Kaz, though, tells her exactly what he thinks of Tala Vega.]

At the risk of coming to bodily harm, she scares me more than you sometimes. Y'know the kind of awesome that scares you? Yeah, that's Tala.

[Also you. but Kaz is never going to say that to his Blademate.]

How is Kibo treating you?

[ She nods, agreeing. ]

She is a force of nature on her own.

[ Oh hey topic change!!! ]

I am enjoying my stay there. [ Drink. ] And you, how is the Brotherhood?

[ktotheatothez]

[He smiles a little at that. He's happy for Yulia, really.]

I can't complain. Every day is a new experience. I've been spending more time at the shooting range of late, though. I figure I need to work on my shooting.

[He tips back his drink.]

Would you care for something with more vodka and less fruit?

[bostova]

[ She just shrugs. She was almost done with her drink, anyway. ]

I would not mind.

[ktotheatothez]

Cool. Gimme a sec.

[Kaz drains his drink and asks the nearest bartender for vodka, the best they got. He hopes for Grey Goose, really. While they wait, he turns to Yulia and observes her quietly, mostly smiling and bobbing his head to the beats. He would ask her to dance, but he's not sure that Yulia would be okay with that.]

[bostova]

[ So, Yulia's quiet. She's checking her phone every now and then, looks around, takes her drink. She is... bored. And a little antsy. She looks grateful to the bartender when the bottle of vodka arrives, and immediately asks for a shot.

What now, Kaz? ]

[ktotheatothez]

I don't suppose you'd want to --

[That thought gets cut off in its tracks as he catches Yulia's look. Kaz gets the feeling that if he asks her to dance, it wouldn't be pretty, so he settles for ordering another bottle for Yulia, on him.

He pats her shoulder briefly to get her attention and leans in to whisper:]

The mezzanine is quieter, there're couches and you can smoke up there. I ordered another bottle, just in case.

[He smiles at her and backs away to respect her space, and then saunters off, raising a hand as he leaves to say See you later, Yulia.]
